Y’all! I am so excited about how many of you want snail mail!
I have been collecting postcards for a few years and have a thick stack itching for stamps, so I think for my first big mailing, I will work through those. You might get something totally random because some of them are weirdo freebies I picked up in strange places. Let the fun begin. ✨
This week in writing
Still excited to be back in the pond novel, still doing Morning Writing Club every weekday, still sending my 10 pages on Sundays, except that today I only sent five pages because my kiddo turned four (!!!) this week and we had a big playground party for him, and even when you say you’re going to be chill about the party this year, it turns out chill playground parties still involve logistics like ordering the pizza, borrowing a cooler, procuring drinks to put in the cooler, finding the pizza when the delivery person gets lost because playgrounds technically have addresses but they aren’t actually posted anywhere, etc. etc. etc. It was an exhaustingly magical week.
I did give Anna, my pond novel collaborator, permission to go in and start reading again, and I’ve been jotting down lots of ideas in my novel notes app. The train may look slow from the outside, but it’s moving!
This week in reading
I read Mike Nagel’s delightful Duplex, which is both quirky-funny and full of very true lines like, “Every moment of every day is a triage situation unless you’re willing to ignore a few things.”
Basically the narrator and his wife live in a duplex in Texas and there is some sort of animal in the attic and it used to be easier to believe in things but now it’s harder to believe in things but some things are still worth believing in.
Loved it. Recommend.
What should I read next? I have this PILE of books I got during the recent NYRB sale but I’m also feeling very open to wherever the wind takes me…
