A quick note to document 1000 Words of Summer progress so far:
Day 1: 1,053
Day 2: 1,084
Day 3: 1,039
Day 4: 1,129
Day 5: 1,022
What am I writing? Beginnings, middles, and random scraps of what might, through a lot of revision later, become essays.
Chelsea Hodson’s essay class also started on Saturday, and it was exactly what I needed to kick off these 14 days. I’ll probably write more about the class at some point, but the first session was all about expanding our ideas of what an essay might be (so helpful!) and generating ideas that have heat. I came out of that session with a list of things to write about it, and that has been my to-do list this week.
I thought I’d need to clear out my schedule for the challenge, but this type of writing goes way faster for me than fiction — I never thought I’d say this, but it’s been pretty easy for me to hit my thousand words during my morning writing session, before the kid wakes up. I might lose it at some point, but for right now, I’ve got steam.
I’ll do another 1000 Words midpoint check-in and a wrap-up post. Good luck to everyone out there who’s participating! We got this.
